UNMF Issues Security Alert, Alleges Plot to Discredit Leader Eddy Kenzo
KAMPALA, Uganda – The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) has issued an urgent security alert, claiming there is a coordinated effort by unnamed individuals and groups to orchestrate incidents aimed at discrediting its president, Eddy Kenzo, and the federation’s leadership.
In a public notice released for immediate circulation, the UNMF stated it has received “credible information” regarding a planned scheme to stage public confrontations, circulate false allegations, manipulate media platforms, and undermine the reputation of the federation.
“These actions appear calculated to create public disorder, reputational damage, and institutional mistrust,” the statement read.
Context of the Alleged Plot
According to preliminary findings cited by the UNMF, the suspected activities may involve a range of industry actors, including:
· Certain promoters and industry players
· A section of musicians “acting outside the spirit of unity and professionalism”
· Individuals who previously held leadership roles but “did not establish sustainable industry structures”
· Some media practitioners and bloggers
· Elements of political opportunism “seeking relevance through controversy”
The federation emphasized that these remain “matters of concern under observation” and that relevant security authorities are best placed to investigate and determine accountability.
Calls to Action
The UNMF urged its member associations to remain calm, vigilant, and responsible, avoiding provocations or unverified claims. Members were instructed to report suspicious developments through official UNMF and security channels.
To the media and public, the federation appealed for responsible reporting and verification of information, urging against the amplification of unverified or sensational content.
Appeal to Security Agencies
The federation called upon relevant security authorities to enhance preventive and protective measures, investigate any attempts to incite disorder or target individuals, and ensure the safety of all stakeholders, particularly during public engagements.
UNMF Reaffirms Commitment
Despite the alert, the UNMF reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful engagement, national unity, structured industry growth, and strengthening its collaborative relationship with the government.
“We strongly condemn any efforts to use intimidation, misinformation, or orchestrated conflict as tools for personal, political, or commercial gain,” the statement concluded.
The federation reassured stakeholders that it will continue to operate with transparency, integrity, and resilience in advancing the interests of Uganda’s creative sector.
