URSB Urges Non-Individual Entities to Secure ERNs or Face Operational Hurdles
Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has issued a directive urging all non-individual entities to acquire Entity Registration Numbers (ERNs) to prevent future operational disruptions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the bureau warned that a wide range of organizations—including companies, NGOs, cooperatives, associations, and government agencies—must comply with the new requirement.
Arthur Kwesiga, the Commissioner for ICT and Innovations at URSB, explained that the initiative aims to integrate these organizations into the formal economy and align them with government compliance systems.
“The move is intended to ensure that all non-individual entities are captured within the formal economy and adhere to government regulatory frameworks,” Kwesiga said.
He further noted that possessing an ERN will soon become a mandatory prerequisite for accessing government services. Entities that fail to obtain the number risk being locked out of critical administrative and business processes.
Other groups targeted by the directive include partnerships, trusts, collective investment schemes, trade unions, and other organized groups.
URSB has encouraged all affected entities to register promptly to avoid future challenges.
