No Mobile Phone Was Withdrawn From Among, Says MP-Elect Ofwono Opondo
KAMPALA – The Member of Parliament-elect for the Older Persons, Eastern Region, Mr. Ofwono Opondo, has dismissed media reports claiming that a mobile telephone handset was withdrawn from the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among.
Speaking without any fear of contradiction, Opondo clarified that no such incident took place, contrary to what has been circulating in various news outlets.
“I say without any fear of contradiction, contrary to media reports, that no mobile telephone hand set was withdrawn from @AnitahAmong,” Opondo stated. He further noted that visitors continue to have access to her home on Macknon Road, Nakasero.
Opondo made the remarks after paying a courtesy call to the Speaker on Tuesday afternoon. In a series of statements, he described the meeting as an honour, especially during what he called “these times.”
He praised Among for her upbeat spirit, lively conversation, and unwavering commitment to uphold and respect the leadership of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Specifically, he lauded her for her resolve to vote for the Speaker candidate forwarded by the NRM Parliamentary Caucus.
“Your honour to H.E. Kaguta Museveni is top-notch,” Opondo added, referring to the Speaker’s respect for the President.
The MP-elect concluded by reiterating his support for the Speaker, urging the public to disregard what he termed false media allegations.
