TORO KINGDOM SUCCESSION ROW DEEPENS AS PRINCES REJECT FATHER’S DECLARATION OF NEW MONARCH
FORT PORTAL – The succession dispute in Tooro Kingdom has taken a dramatic turn after two princes publicly distanced themselves from their father, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, and rejected the declaration of a new monarch.
Prince Patrick Mpuuga and Prince Solomon Nyaika, sons of Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, have accused unnamed self-interested individuals of hijacking their father and using him to advance their own agenda. The princes officially threw out the declaration of a new monarch made yesterday, calling it “null, void, and unofficial.”
According to the princes, no final decision has been reached regarding the next King of Tooro.
“We disagree with our own father, and it’s surprising that he has taken that turn. The will of the king, Omukama Oyo, supersedes any will that existed in the past,” the princes stated.
They explained that their father retired during last year’s coronation anniversary, after which the process of identifying and installing a new Musuuga was expected to begin. The princes further argued that the will left by the late King Oyo is binding on all parties involved in the succession dispute.
The royal sons also challenged the suggestion that a king can be elected, arguing that monarchs are not chosen through voting.
Their comments come amid a succession row following the appointment of Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi as the new King of Tooro. The princes’ rejection of their father’s declaration adds a new layer of complexity to the already contentious dispute over who should ascend to the throne.
The development has left observers questioning the legitimacy of the newly declared monarch and the future of the succession process in the kingdom.
