Uganda Feud Erupts: Gashumba’s Healing Challenge Sparks Online Clash with Pastor Kayanja
A heated public dispute has erupted in Uganda between businessman Frank Gashumba and Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral, sparking widespread debate online regarding miracle claims, church finances, and accountability.
The conflict began when Gashumba challenged religious leaders to prove their claims of miraculous healing by treating a critically ill patient at either Mulago or Nsambya Hospital. To back the challenge, he offered up to Shs500 million.
Pastor Kayanja responded fiercely to the proposition, declaring an end to what he described as the mockery of the church and issuing stark warnings. His son, Robert Kayanja Jr., stepped forward to defend the church’s charitable work and financial audits.
The dispute quickly escalated into an online exchange involving the children of both men. Sheilah Gashumba, the businessman’s daughter, joined the digital fray to emphasize her father’s Catholic faith and firmly reject any curses directed at her family. In a post on X, she mocked the severity of the pastor’s warnings, writing: “The way Pastor Kayanja is cursing Gashumba family and its next generation, you might think that all the last generations of the family used to go to his church. Has the family been surviving on your prayers SSEBO?!?!”
The highly publicized clash has spotlighted broader debates within Uganda regarding the role of religious leaders. Online discussions have since proliferated, including defenses of the church (“You will not mock the Body of Christ anymore”), critiques of pastors soliciting large tithes while promising miracles, and calls for traditional healers and witch doctors to be challenged with equal scrutiny.
As the story continues to trend on X, it remains a developing narrative reflecting deep societal conversations about faith, accountability, and the influence of religious institutions in the country.
