Government Breaks Ground on Key Road Link to Boost Greater Kampala Connectivity
A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for a transformative infrastructure project aimed at easing travel within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).
The new 6.1-kilometre road link will connect Ssebugwawo–Bunono–Abayita Ababiri to Kitinda, providing a crucial alternative route to reduce congestion and improve accessibility for commuters and businesses.
Officials hailed the project as a historic milestone under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP), designed to modernize urban infrastructure, promote trade, and enhance mobility across Kampala and its surrounding towns.
“This is more than just a road—it is an investment in economic growth, social transformation, and the future of our people,” one official noted at the ceremony.
Once completed, the road is expected to decongest major highways, reduce travel times, and open up new opportunities for investment in the area.
The project reflects government’s broader commitment to sustainable urban development and infrastructure modernization across Uganda.
