Qatar Welcomes UK’s Intention to Recognize State of Palestine
Doha, July 30, 2025 — The State of Qatar has warmly welcomed the announcement by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer regarding the United Kingdom’s intention to formally recognize the State of Palestine. In an official statement released today, Qatar praised the move as a significant step toward advancing the two-state solution and fostering lasting peace in the region.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the UK’s decision aligns with international legitimacy and longstanding United Nations Security Council resolutions. The ministry described the announcement as a crucial development that could bolster efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Qatar highlighted that the British government’s stance reflects the broader consensus reached during the recent International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question, where participating nations endorsed a roadmap to increase global recognition of Palestine. The ministry underscored that such recognition supports the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Reiterating its longstanding position, Qatar called on other nations that have not yet recognized Palestine to follow the UK’s example, urging them to uphold international law and the historical rights of the Palestinian people.
The statement concluded with Qatar’s reaffirmation of its commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a fair and enduring peace in the Middle East.
