JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN – October 21, 2025 – Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel has called on all state governors to reinforce their role as the first line of defence in conflict prevention, following a high-level security briefing with the Governor of Lakes State.
The Vice President was briefed on the security situation in Lakes State by Governor Hon. Rin Tueny Mabor during a meeting held in Juba earlier today.
The discussions between the two leaders focused on the current state of affairs and explored concrete strategies to enhance coordination between national and state institutions. A key objective, according to the meeting’s readout, is to foster reconciliation, sustain communal harmony, and strengthen law and order for the people of Lakes State.
Following the briefing, Vice President Bol Mel urged Governor Mabor to intensify efforts toward maintaining peace and stability across the state. He expanded this directive into a national appeal, calling on all state governors and administrations to play their critical part in preventing conflicts.
“The Vice President called on all governors and state administrations to play their critical role as the first line of defence in conflict prevention,” a statement from the meeting noted.
Furthermore, VP Bol Mel reiterated the national agenda for peace championed by His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit. He emphasized that sustainable peace must begin at the state level before extending to the entire nation.
Such foundational peace, the Vice President noted, is the essential prerequisite for the government to deliver on its promises of development and a better future for all citizens of South Sudan.
The meeting underscores the national government’s continued focus on resolving localised conflicts as a pathway to achieving lasting stability across the country.
