PUBLIC NOTICE: KCCA Restores Trade Order and Public Safety in Kampala, Offers Over 2,000 Free Market Spaces

KAMPALA – The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has issued a directive requiring all individuals operating in unauthorized trading spaces—including roads, walkways, and other non-gazetted areas—to vacate and relocate to designated trading locations within seven (7) days from the date of this notice.
As part of efforts to restore order, enhance safety, and promote a clean and organized city, the Government of Uganda has made available over 2,000 free workspaces in various KCCA-owned markets across the city. Vendors are strongly encouraged to apply through KCCA Market Allocation Committees and Market Administrators, who have been directed to fast-track the allocation process.
In a related Immediate Directive, KCCA has also ordered all persons preparing or selling food using charcoal stoves (sigiri) or other fire-generating equipment in taxi parks and along streets to cease operations immediately. These activities have been identified as serious fire hazards that endanger lives and property.
Full enforcement of the trade order will commence on Friday, 31st October 2025, starting within the Central Business District, covering key areas such as:
· Ben Kiwanuka Street
· Luwuum Street
· Namirembe Road
· Nakivubo Road
· Allen Road
· Kikuubo Lane
This enforcement timeline is intended to provide ample opportunity for all affected vendors to transition to approved workspaces.
