President Museveni Appoints Lino Anguzu as New Director of Public Prosecutions

KAMPALA – In a significant move within Uganda’s justice sector, His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Mr. Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The appointment was announced in an official update from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). This development follows closely on the heels of the President’s recent appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the Principal Judge.
According to the announcement, the President has forwarded Mr. Anguzu’s name to Parliament for the mandatory vetting and approval process. This aligns with reports from this morning, which indicated that the Parliament of Uganda’s Committee on Appointments was already vetting Presidential nominees for key positions, including Mr. Anguzu for the DPP role.
Mr. Lino Anguzu is not new to the ODPP. He has been serving as an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and notably headed the International Crimes Department, a critical division within the Office.
The parliamentary committee is expected to conclude its vetting process and submit its recommendations to the President for final action. Once approved by Parliament, Mr. Anguzu will assume the powerful role of the country’s chief prosecutor.
The ODPP update concluded with congratulations to Mr. Anguzu on his appointment.
In the same session, the parliamentary committee also vetted Hon. Opolot Jacob Richards and Hon. Rosie Agoi as members of the Education Service Commission. The nation now awaits the final decision from Parliament regarding these key appointments.
