South Sudan, Norway Discuss Regional Stability and Peace Process in High-Level Meeting

Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel met with the Norwegian Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Endre Stiansen, in Juba on Wednesday, for discussions centered on critical national and regional issues.

The Norwegian delegation, which included Chargé d’Affaires Inger Meyer and other senior embassy officials, engaged in talks focusing on the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the final status of the Abyei Area, and the implementation of South Sudan’s own Revitalized Peace Agreement.

According to a readout from the meeting, Amb. Stiansen commended the steady progress made by the government in implementing its peace deal. He assured South Sudan of Norway’s continued support and lauded the country’s evolving role as a “key advocate for regional stability,” highlighting its efforts to foster cross-border dialogue.
In response, Vice President Dr. Bol Mel expressed the government’s deep gratitude to the people and government of Norway for their “enduring friendship and partnership.” He acknowledged Norway’s support as a key factor in the nation’s ongoing transformation under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The meeting underscores the international community’s close engagement with South Sudan, not only on its internal peace process but also on its growing diplomatic role in addressing the wider crises affecting the Horn of Africa.
