UPDF Reclaims Disputed Fitina-Mbaya Village in Yumbe District
Calm has returned to Yumbe District after the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) successfully reclaimed Fitina-Mbaya village from the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in a decisive security operation.
The contested village, located along the Uganda–South Sudan border, has been the scene of heightened tensions in recent weeks, following claims of territorial ownership by both nations. The UPDF’s intervention was aimed at restoring order, ensuring the safety of residents, and reaffirming Uganda’s sovereignty over the area.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the operation, expressing relief that normalcy has been restored. Authorities have urged continued dialogue between Kampala and Juba to prevent further border disputes and maintain peaceful coexistence.
The UPDF has pledged to maintain a security presence in Fitina-Mbaya to guarantee the safety of civilians and deter any future incursions.
