Foreign National Under Investigation for Alleged Assault of Ugandan Journalist
Entebbe, Uganda | January 9, 2026
A Norwegian national is under police investigation following allegations of assault made by a prominent Entebbe-based journalist and community activist.
The case, which has been registered at Entebbe Police Station under file number 16/09/12/2025, involves Mr. Steinar Oeknen, a businessman and proprietor of Oslo Gardens at the Nakiwogo landing site, and Mr. Samuel Batambira, a founding member of the Entebbe One media group.
According to the allegations, an altercation occurred several weeks ago, during which Mr. Oeknen is accused of physically assaulting Mr. Batambira. The incident is said to have taken place in a public area on a Tuesday market day.
In a formal letter dated January 7, 2026, addressed to several authorities, Mr. Batambira has detailed the allegations of assault. He claims the investigation has been delayed and suggests the accused is attempting to use his influence to frustrate the judicial process. Police have not officially commented on these specific claims.
Mr. Batambira, known locally for his media work and human rights activism, states the matter is now awaiting legal action and decries the alleged evasion of the accused.
Mr. Oeknen, who is married to a Ugandan woman, could not be reached for comment. Sources suggest he is seeking an out-of-court resolution, but this remains unconfirmed.
Authorities confirm the case is active and under investigation. No formal charges have been publicly filed as of this reporting.
