Uganda: Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba Vows to Arrest Organizers of Rumored Party for Ex-Speaker Anita Among
Kampala, Uganda — A planned celebration for former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has sparked a public clash within Uganda’s ruling circles, prompting a stern warning from the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The controversy began following rumors of a party to welcome Among back into the public eye, following her reported release from house arrest via a presidential pardon. Amid speculation that such a gathering was being organized on her behalf, Gen. Kainerugaba took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a hardline ultimatum.
“There will be ABSOLUTELY no party for AAA. We shall arrest anybody involved in that nonsense! Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” Gen. Kainerugaba posted.
The General’s message highlights deep tensions over the issue of accountability within the government. While Among may have received a pardon, Gen. Kainerugaba’s statement emphasizes that legal and corruption allegations remain unresolved.
These allegations stem from a 2026 corruption probe, which reportedly saw authorities seize luxury vehicles—including a Rolls-Royce—from Among’s properties.
In a swift response, Anita Among directly addressed the rumors to deny any involvement. In a post seen as a direct reply to the General, she wrote: “My brother Gen, there are no arrangements by myself or individuals associated with me to host any party. God bless!”
In a separate post, she further clarified her position: “I have learned that a party is purportedly being organised on my behalf. I wish to explicitly state that I have not authorised any such gathering in my name, and no individual associated with me is orchestrating such an event. Kindly dismiss any misinformation in this regard.”
The public exchange between the two high-profile figures has drawn significant attention and divided reactions, with many pointing out the contradictions between the presidential pardon and the General’s threat of arrest over “unresolved cases.” As of now, no party has taken place, and the situation remains tense.
