Second Sam Kalega Njuba Memorial Lecture Emphasizes Constitutionalism and Accountability
Kampala, Uganda — September 24, 2026
The Uganda Law Society (ULS) hosted the second edition of the Sam Kalega Njuba, SC Memorial Lecture on Thursday, bringing together prominent opposition politicians, activists, and legal experts to honor the legacy of the distinguished advocate and former ULS president.
The event, held at the ULS headquarters in Kampala, with others participating online, is part of the activities marking the 2026 Uganda Law Society Annual Rule of Law Week.
A message from President Bobi Wine was delivered at the event by National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David L. Rubongoya. The gathering also featured notable leaders, including Hon. George Musisi and Mugisha Muntu.
Addressing the attendees online, keynote speaker Hon. Ssemujju Nganda stressed that the true test of the rule of law comes when compliance is hardest and when public office demands accountability.
ULS CEO Adeti Christine highlighted how Njuba’s values remain vital today, noting that the second-year lecture series aims to preserve his legacy for future generations through thoughtful dialogue on strengthening accountability.
Following the event, Rubongoya reiterated the commitment to Njuba’s ideals in a post on X.
“This morning, we represented @NUPUg and our leader @HEBobiwine at the Sam Kalega Njuba Memorial Lecture organised by Uganda Law Society,” Rubongoya wrote. “The best way to honor his memory and legacy is by continuing to fight for constitutionalism, good governance and the rule of law!”
The memorial lecture serves to honor the legacy of Sam Kalega Njuba, SC, a distinguished advocate and former president of the Uganda Law Society who was a dedicated champion for the rule of law.
