Muhoozi Kainerugaba Imposes Strict Travel Restrictions on Ugandan Ministers, Issues Fiery Election Warning
Kampala, Uganda — Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the controversial Ugandan military general and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has announced sweeping new restrictions on government ministers via a series of posts on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, threatening hefty fines for unauthorized foreign travel while issuing a stark warning regarding future elections.
In a flurry of posts spanning several hours, Kainerugaba declared that all ministers must seek his personal permission and clearance before leaving the country.
“All ministers need my permission and clearance before leaving the country,” he posted. “My address is known they must ALL notify me before they leave Uganda.”
To enforce this directive, Kainerugaba announced an immediate financial penalty for any minister who travels abroad without his approval. “Every minister who leaves the country without my permission will be fined 30 million shillings,” he stated. “We shall use that money to build roads. Ministry of Finance will start implementing this order immediately.”
He further clarified that he would review and clear ministerial trips on a monthly basis, with the Ministry of Finance seeking his approval for such travel.
Callout Over Turkey Trip
The announcements appear to have been triggered by a specific incident involving Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, who recently posted about his “Official Engagements in the Republic of Türkiye.”
Quoting Kasolo’s post, Kainerugaba wrote, “You went there without permission?” He followed up by stating, “I did not clear Hon. Kasolo to visit Turkey. He will explain.”
Kainerugaba also singled out the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adonia Ayebare, praising him for his compliance. “Minister of Foreign Affairs @adoniaayebare is a disciplined cadre. He does not go anywhere without my permission,” he wrote.
Warning Over Future Elections
Beyond the travel restrictions, Kainerugaba also made headlines with a direct political threat regarding a figure he referred to as “bobi.”
“bobi will never be allowed to stand in another election in Uganda again,” he wrote. “He proved he is a foreign puppet when he run abroad 10 days after the last elections. We will never let that clown stand for anything in Uganda again. Never!”
In a separate post, Kainerugaba struck a more patriotic tone, writing, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what we together can do for the greatness of Uganda.”
