
Uganda, Ethiopia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties Ahead of Key Regional Events
Kampala, Uganda – August 5, 2025
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs (MSFA/RA), Hon. John Mulimba, met with Her Excellency Estegenet Bezabih Yimenu, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Uganda, at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala to discuss bilateral matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Ambassador Estegenet provided an update on the forthcoming mid-term review of the Ethiopia-Uganda Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), scheduled for October 2025. The review aims to assess the progress made in implementing agreements between the two nations and explore new areas for cooperation.
Ambassador Estegenet also delivered an official invitation to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to attend the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), set to take place on September 9, 2025, in Ethiopia. The GERD, a major infrastructure project on the Blue Nile, is considered a significant milestone for Ethiopia’s energy and development agenda and a symbol of regional cooperation.
The meeting underscored the strong and enduring relationship between Uganda and Ethiopia, with both sides expressing commitment to deepening collaboration in political, economic, and regional development frameworks.
