
Princess Diana Balizzamuggale, Sister to Buganda’s Kabaka Mutebi, Passes Away at 59
KAMPALA – The Buganda Kingdom is in mourning following the death of Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, the younger sister of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The sad news was officially announced on Saturday morning by the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the Premier, Princess Balizzamuggale, aged 59, had been unwell for some time and had been undergoing medical treatment in several hospitals both in Uganda and abroad.
Princess Diana was the last-born child of the late Kabaka Sir Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Muteesa II, the 35th Kabaka of Buganda and the first President of Uganda. Her mother was Princess Catherine Karungu of Ankole, as recorded in Buganda’s royal lineage.
Born in October 1966 during her father’s exile, Princess Diana never had the opportunity to meet Ssekabaka Muteesa II before his passing.
The Kingdom has stated that further details regarding the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
The passing of the Princess casts a somber mood over the Kingdom and its subjects, as the Royal Family and the nation prepare to bid farewell.
