
King Oyo in Critical Condition, Kingdom Appeals for Prayers and Calm
Fort Portal, Uganda – August 27, 2026 – The Tooro Kingdom has officially confirmed that His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is in a critical condition, appealing for calm and prayers while strongly refuting social media rumors of his death.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa), Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki .
“Critical Condition” Confirmed
In the official communication addressed to the Abatooro and the general public, the Prime Minister stated: “This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition” .
The statement described the situation as a “difficult and deeply concerning time” and called upon the people of Tooro, friends of the Kingdom, and well-wishers across the world to keep the 34-year-old monarch in their thoughts and prayers .
Kingdom Refutes Death Rumors
The official confirmation follows hours of intense speculation on social media, where unverified reports had circulated claiming that the King had passed away . These claims were fueled by a widely shared post on social media .
The Kingdom did not confirm the death reports. Instead, the Prime Minister urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation, rumors, or unverified information regarding the King’s health .
“We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family,” the statement read . The Kingdom has not disclosed the nature of the King’s illness or his current location .
Minister Confirms Medical Care in the U.S.
Separately, Minister Balaam Barugahara confirmed that the King is alive but unwell and currently receiving medical treatment in the United States . The Minister also appealed for unity in prayer for the King’s recovery .
A Monarch’s Legacy
King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of three following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He has since become one of Uganda’s most prominent cultural leaders .
The Kingdom said official channels will provide further updates as and when appropriate . For now, the public is asked to stand together in prayer for His Majesty .
