Muhoozi Kainerugaba Launches Signature Drive for 2031 Presidential Bid
Kampala – Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has officially kicked off a major endorsement campaign targeting the 2031 Ugandan presidency, thanking Members of Parliament for their support as the “journey” officially begins.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gen. Kainerugaba announced ambitious goals for the campaign, stating, “We want 20 million endorsement signatures by September next year.” He also highlighted a specific focus on inclusivity, adding, “Furthermore, women will have their own endorsement book. The women’s voice will be heard.”
The launch was formalized by Hon. David Kabanda at the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) offices. According to the announcement, the endorsement campaign was sanctioned by President Yoweri Museveni to cover the 2031-2036 term.
The initiative is set to include rallies planned across all 146 districts in the country.
This latest push follows previous declarations by Gen. Kainerugaba that were marked by controversy, including criticism over alleged ethnic remarks and a specific post questioning a businessman’s tribal identity, which drew sharp backlash from opposition figure Bobi Wine and the Rwandan government.
The endorsement drive highlights the ongoing national debate regarding political succession in Uganda, a country that has seen President Museveni hold power for four decades.
