Secret Ballot Underway for Speaker of 12th Parliament as Among’s Whereabouts Raise Questions
Kololo, Uganda – Voting by secret ballot is currently underway at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds as Members of Parliament elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
However, the exercise is taking place amid questions over the absence of one of the key figures in the race. The name of Hon. Anita Among was read out during the roll call, but she had not yet turned up to cast her vote as of the time of this report.
According to a close family source, Among also declined to attend a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting following an invitation from President Yoweri Museveni. The source alleges that she communicated her decision through NRM Secretary-General Richard Todwong and NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, citing concerns over her security and freedom of movement.
Despite her absence, the election process continues, with MPs casting their secret ballots to decide the next leadership of Parliament. The outcome is expected to be announced later today.
