The Fall of the Iron Fist: Museveni Places Anita Among Under House Arrest in Brutal Speakership Showdown
KAMPALA, Uganda – The political war against Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has taken a dramatic and darker turn, with reports indicating that President Yoweri Museveni has placed her under house arrest.
According to sources highlighted by NTV, the drastic measure followed a tense, high-stakes meeting at State House, where the President’s inner circle moved decisively to force the outgoing Speaker out of the race for her own seat’s leadership. The meeting, described by insiders as a political ambush, ended with Museveni’s camp leveling a blistering array of accusations against Among: opulence, extravagant spending, abuse of office, and turning the legislative body into a “center of unchecked luxury and excess.”
In what is widely seen as the most humiliating aspect of her downfall, President Museveni reportedly summoned former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to State House. The objective was not ceremonial but instructional—to explain to the current leadership how Parliament was managed for years without the lavish spending now synonymous with Among’s tenure. The image of Kadaga, a long-time rival of Among, being paraded as the model of fiscal restraint is said to have landed like a final, cutting insult.
Just weeks ago, Anita Among was considered one of the most feared and untouchable figures in Uganda’s political establishment—a fierce loyalist who believed her defense of the regime made her invincible. She was praised, protected, and celebrated.
Today, she finds herself publicly isolated, politically cornered, and seemingly sacrificed by the very system she once fiercely defended.
The message from State House is unmistakable. In the brutal calculus of Museveni’s brand of realpolitik, loyalty offers no permanent shield. The moment the system determines you have become a liability—whether due to public perception, excess, or ambition—the knives are unsheathed without hesitation.
The rhythm remains the same: Use. Exhaust. Discard.
For Anita Among, once the untouchable queen of Parliament, the lesson is now being delivered in the harshest terms possible—under guard, in isolation, as the regime she served prepares to bury her political future.
