23-Year-Old Arrested for Attempting to Bypass UPDF Recruitment Procedures
Bushenyi — A 23-year-old man from Rubirizi District has been arrested for allegedly attempting to participate in the ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise without appearing on the official shortlist.
UPDF spokesperson Maj Kiconco Tabaro confirmed the arrest, warning that anyone who tries to bypass official recruitment procedures will face prosecution. “The recruitment process is transparent and follows strict guidelines. Any attempt to infiltrate it unlawfully will not be tolerated,” Maj Tabaro stated.
The incident happened during recruitment activities in Bushenyi District. The exercise will continue in Mbarara from August 12 to 15, with a target of 1,400 recruits drawn from the Greater Ankole and Kigezi regions.
The UPDF has urged all applicants to follow the official procedures and attend recruitment only if they are on the published shortlist.
