Kasuku Secures Shs 5 Billion Pledge from Museveni for Creative Industry
Veteran Ugandan media personality Isaac Katende, widely known as Kasuku, has successfully secured a pledge of Shs 5 billion from the government to support the creative arts sector.
The commitment was made by President Yoweri Museveni during the second edition of the “Jazz with Jajja” interaction, held at the President’s Kisozi ranch over the weekend.
Kasuku, who attended the event as a representative of the creative community, used the platform to remind the President of unfulfilled promises made during the first online interaction.
“The last time I was here, you promised us things. Now everywhere I pass, people say, ‘The President gave you our things,'” Kasuku said, eliciting laughter from the gathering. “When I was coming today, they asked me to ensure that I come back with their things.”
In response, President Museveni inquired about the level of organization within the creative fraternity. Kasuku assured him that the sector was well-structured and ready to utilize the funds.
“We are organised; we have a SACCO and an association where we all belong,” Kasuku confirmed.
Satisfied with the response, Museveni announced the financial injection. “I will inject Shs 5 billion in the association,” the President declared, drawing applause and excitement from the attendees.
An elated Kasuku thanked the President for the commitment and immediately requested a follow-up meeting to present a formal memorandum outlining the industry’s needs. The President swiftly agreed, setting a meeting for next week.
The pledge has been met with optimism within Uganda’s creative industry. Stakeholders are hopeful that the funds, channeled through their SACCO and association, will provide a significant boost to artists, media personalities, and other creatives across the country.
