KIU Law Student Dies After Failed Abortion Attempt, Boyfriend on the Run
The family of Naome Nyabeyishiki, a law student at Kampala International University (KIU), is still grappling with the tragic loss of their young daughter following a suspected failed abortion attempt.
According to preliminary police investigations, Naome reportedly spent the night at her boyfriend’s home in Nsambya after informing her friends at campus of her plans. Hours later, her phone went off, prompting friends to alert Kabalagala Police Station and her parents.
Investigators say Naome later arrived at Safety Medical Clinic in Katwe on her own, seeking urgent medical attention due to excessive bleeding. The clinic’s doctor immediately referred her to Mulago National Referral Hospital and arranged special transport. Sadly, she died en route before reaching the facility.
Her lifeless body, along with that of her five-month-old unborn baby, was taken to the Mulago mortuary, where they were discovered days later after an intensive search by family and friends.
Naome has since been laid to rest in her home district of Rakai. However, the body of her unborn child remains at the mortuary as police continue investigations and search for her boyfriend, who is currently in hiding for fear of arrest.
