President Museveni Sponsors Stranded Ugandans’ Return from South Africa

Twelve Ugandans who had been stranded in South Africa are set to return home after receiving support from President Yoweri Museveni.

The group had travelled to South Africa in search of better opportunities, but their circumstances quickly worsened, leaving them struggling to survive. Many had entered the country illegally and feared arrest if they attempted to return to Uganda on their own.
Their plight came to light when they met Hajjat Hadijja Namyalo, a senior presidential aide, during her visit to South Africa to mobilize support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections. The stranded Ugandans pleaded for assistance to safely return home.
Moved by their situation, President Museveni offered to sponsor their travel back to Uganda, ensuring they can return without facing legal troubles at the airport.
The initiative has been welcomed as a humanitarian gesture aimed at giving the stranded citizens a fresh start back home.
