New Cabinet Must Rise to the Occasion, Says Minister for Presidency
President Museveni’s newly appointed cabinet has been called upon to fully align with the head of state’s vision for wealth creation, job growth, and economic transformation.
Following the recent cabinet reshuffle at the end of last month, Minister for Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda has issued a rallying call to both newly appointed and returning ministers to embrace disciplined, results-driven leadership.
In a statement released after the vetting process began in Parliament last week, Hon. Babalanda expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for retaining her as Minister for Presidency, describing her reappointment as both humbling and motivating.
“This renewed confidence in me and several of my other colleagues who were retained in cabinet is a reminder that hard work, dedication, loyalty and commitment to national service do not go unnoticed,” she said.
The Minister emphasised that the President’s focus for the new term remains firmly on wealth creation, household income improvement, industrialisation, and economic transformation.
“We must be development-oriented in both thought and action,” she wrote.
Hon.Babalanda pointed to government investments in electricity generation, modern road networks, ICT infrastructure, peace and security, and regional integration through the East African Community as critical foundations.
“These investments were not made for their own sake. They were intended to create an enabling environment for production, trade, industrialisation, and wealth creation,” she noted.
The Minister also underscored the President’s clear message for the term: Hakuna Kula (No Sleeping), Mliza Ufisadi (No corruption).
“This is not merely a slogan; it is a call to action,” she said, urging all ministers, accounting officers, and public servants to deliver results for wananchi with transparency and integrity.
Hon. Babalanda further called on Ugandans, particularly young people, to embrace productive work, commercial agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, tourism, and the creative economy. She cautioned against excessive focus on foreign football clubs at the expense of productive activities.
“The opportunities before us are immense. Uganda’s future is bright,” she said, noting that oil will begin to flow this term.
“The foundation has been laid. The vision is clear. The time for delivery is now.”
