Kainerugaba Orders Mwenda to Cease Tooro Commentary in Public Directive
KAMPALA — Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the prominent Ugandan military figure and leader of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has issued a public directive ordering journalist Andrew Mwenda to stop commenting on matters concerning the Tooro Kingdom.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Kainerugaba declared that he had personally instructed the commentator to halt all discussion on the subject with immediate effect.
“I have instructed comrade @AndrewMwenda not to speak about the issues of Tooro again. He will stop it immediately,” Kainerugaba wrote.
The directive was coupled with a message of solidarity to the people of Tooro, in which Kainerugaba expressed condolences on behalf of the PLU regarding what he described as a tragedy affecting the region.
“Once again, as PLU we commiserate with the great Batooro people on the tragedy that befall all of us,” the post continued.
However, the statement drew immediate attention due to a significant factual error in its closing line. Kainerugaba concluded the message by saying, “May the soul of the late King Oyo rest in peace.”
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is the current and living reigning monarch of the Tooro Kingdom, having ascended the throne in 1995 as a toddler. The reference to the “late King Oyo” has caused confusion, as the monarch remains alive and active in his cultural role.
