Museveni Urges Buyende Residents to Fight Poverty Through Smart Farming
Buyende, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon the residents of Buyende to actively engage in wealth creation to overcome household poverty, emphasizing a shift from subsistence to commercial production.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony for Hon. Milly Babalanda, the Member of Parliament for Budiope West, held at Iringa Township Primary School, the President congratulated the MP and the leaders of Busoga for their ongoing work. He also expressed his appreciation to the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its continued support in the region.
During his address, President Museveni outlined practical agricultural steps for the community, urging them to embrace enterprises such as dairy farming, poultry, and fish farming. He stressed the importance of matching these enterprises to the size of available land and called for proper utilization of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds to tackle issues like land fragmentation.
“We must move from subsistence to commercial production. The opportunities are there in agriculture, services, ICT and manufacturing,” Museveni stated, highlighting the broader sectors available for generating household wealth.
The event was also attended by fellow minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng. In her remarks, Hon. Babalanda thanked her supporters and highlighted recent developmental strides in the area, including the construction of new roads and a ferry.
The ceremony blended vibrant processions with a focused message on economic transformation, as leaders emphasized the need for strategic, commercial agricultural practices to drive sustainable development across the Busoga sub-region.
