U.S. Embassy in Uganda Celebrates 250 Years of American Independence with Fireworks and Partners
KAMPALA, Uganda — The U.S. Embassy in Kampala recently hosted a festive evening of speeches, networking, and dazzling fireworks to mark 250 years of American independence.
The celebration brought together prominent Ugandan figures and partners. Attendees included National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, who praised the U.S. story as a powerful testament to freedom, and media personality Lucky Mbabazi, who described the event as a fun gathering.
The event highlighted over 60 years of U.S.-Uganda partnership in key sectors including health, trade, education, and security. According to embassy officials, the celebration is part of the year-long “Freedom 250” campaign, which looks back at America’s founding ideals while looking ahead to future bilateral cooperation.
In a post on X, the U.S. Embassy Kampala (@USEmbassyUganda) shared highlights from the evening, stating: “250 years of freedom. 60+ years of partnership. One bright future. Tonight we celebrated America’s 250th birthday with the people who make the U.S.-Uganda partnership real. From health & innovation to trade, technology, education, & sport. Here’s to the next chapter, together! Happy 250th Birthday, America!”
Rubongoya also took to social media to express his gratitude for the invitation, noting it was an honor to represent the NUP at the event. “For two and a half centuries, the American story has stood as a powerful testament to what a committed people can achieve when they dare to dream of freedom,” he wrote.
