Kampala, Uganda – Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security, Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, has urged the Electoral Commission to consider disqualifying both Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo and Gen. Rwashande from contesting in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Nalweyiso expressed outrage over the violence that marred the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections, squarely blaming the unrest on what she described as the government’s failure to rein in the two candidates.
In her strongly worded remarks, Nalweyiso dismissed both contestants as “fools” and “nobodies in government,” accusing them of tarnishing the party’s image through their conduct. She stressed that political competition should not degenerate into chaos, and insisted that decisive measures — including possible disqualification — were necessary to restore discipline and order.
While Nalweyiso’s criticism was blunt, questions remain over whether she has the political and institutional clout to take on Gen. Rwashande, a figure with his own network of influence. The standoff reflects deeper tensions within the NRM ahead of the 2026 polls, with party leaders grappling to maintain unity amid fierce internal rivalries.
