South Sudan Launches Major Push to Expand Access to Clean Water
JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN – August 28 – In a significant move to improve public health and welfare, the national government is initiating ambitious plans to provide more households across South Sudan with access to clean drinking water.
The undertaking was advanced during a high-level meeting today between Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel and the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hon. James Mawich Makuach. The Vice President issued a direct mandate for urgent and concrete action to address the critical need for expanded water infrastructure.
During the discussions, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel emphasized that clean and safe water is not a luxury but a fundamental necessity. He stated it is “essential for the health of families, the welfare of communities, and the wholeness of the nation.”
The Vice President also reminded the Minister of a core directive from H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit: that all of South Sudan’s resources must be strategically harnessed to serve the common good of its citizens.
This high-priority initiative signals a firm commitment from the top echelons of government. An official statement declared, “The journey towards universal access to clean water has begun, and it cannot be reversed.”
The government envisions a future where “South Sudan will rise as a nation where every drop counts – and every citizen benefits,” marking a new chapter in the nation’s development and the well-being of its people.
