Ugandan media personality and blogger Jenifer Nakanguubi, widely known as Full Figure, was severely beaten in a violent attack by a group of individuals, an incident captured on video and widely circulated online last night.
The graphic video shows Nakanguubi being punched, kicked, and attacked repeatedly by a man dressed in the yellow attire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. During the assault, a group of colleagues can be heard cheering and recording the incident instead of intervening.
Reports indicate the attack occurred near the NRM head offices in Kampala. In the video, the assailants accuse Nakanguubi of verbally abusing them on her media platforms. As of now, the individuals involved have not been officially identified by authorities.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation across social media. Among the prominent figures to speak out was Captain Mike Mukula, the former Health Minister and outgoing NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda. He described the assault as “unacceptable,” specifically condemning the beating of a woman.
In a public post, Mukula tagged high-level officials including the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Internal Affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, urging them to investigate the matter.
However, the incident has also highlighted the controversial nature of Nakanguubi’s public profile. Some online commentators accused her of being excessive in her criticisms of individuals both on her Salt TV shows and on her social media platforms, suggesting her style of commentary had made her a target.
The case has drawn significant public attention, raising questions about political violence, the safety of journalists and commentators, and accountability. The police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or confirm if any arrests have been made.
