Suspect Arrested in Murder of Afrigo Band Founder Moses Matovu
Authorities have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of legendary musician and Afrigo Band founder Moses Matovu, as investigations into his death continue.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi Kainerugaba confirmed that security forces, working under an inter-agency security architecture, swiftly apprehended the suspect. The prime suspect has been identified as Nsamba Arnold, also known as Sitenda.
“I want to thank all security forces… for quickly apprehending the prime suspect in the murder of legendary musician Moses Matovu,” Kainerugaba stated. “The suspect, Nsamba Arnold aka Sitenda is in our custody. He will face the law and justice will be served.”
Police have also confirmed the arrest of a private security guard in connection with the case. Additionally, a woman identified as Rose Tumusiime from Ntungamo district remains in custody to assist detectives with their inquiries.
While police have not officially confirmed the exact circumstances leading to Matovu’s death, an eyewitness told NTV that the confrontation occurred as Matovu escorted a woman to her rented home. The witness alleged that a man believed to be her boyfriend confronted Matovu and punched him.
Matovu was a towering figure in Uganda’s music industry, having founded Afrigo Band in 1975 and leading it for five decades. He is due to be buried in Kyanja on September 25, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing.
