UNBS Launches Advanced e-Portal to Streamline Import Clearance Process
Kampala, Uganda – August 1, 2025 – The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has officially transitioned to a new electronic imports portal (e-Portal), designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and speed in the inspection and clearance of goods entering Uganda.
Key Highlights of the New e-Portal
✅ Seamless Integration: The web-based system is now fully integrated with URA’s Asycuda World, facilitating smoother customs processes.
✅ Faster Clearance: Automatic generation of Import Clearance Certificates (ICC) upon inspection completion.
✅ Real-Time Tracking: Importers can monitor transaction progress, fees, and compliance status via their dashboards.
✅ Digital Exemption Requests: PVoC (Pre-Export Verification of Conformity) exemptions and seizure handling now managed via mobile app.
✅ Reduced Delays: Automated sample submission for lab testing and Turn Around Time (TAT) tracking to minimize business costs.
✅ Enhanced Security: Improved cybersecurity measures and audit reporting.
Mandatory Compliance
Under the UNBS Inspection and Clearance of Imports Regulation (2022), all imported goods covered by compulsory standards must undergo inspection and obtain an ICC before release from customs.
Expedited Clearance: Consignments with valid Certificates of Conformity (COC) and Certificates of Road Worthiness (CRW) will be released without delays during the system’s post-deployment phase.
