MBARARA, UGANDA — The National Unity Platform (NUP) officially launched its Western Regional Headquarters in Mbarara City on Friday, September 26, 2025, marking a significant step in its preparations for the 2026 general elections.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by the party’s president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and attracted thousands of supporters. He was accompanied by key party figures, including the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, and the party’s Secretary General, David L. Rubongoya.
The new office is established as the party’s fourth regional hub in less than a year and will serve as a command center to coordinate NUP’s activities across the Ankole sub-region.
In a post on X, Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi confirmed the launch, stating, “We have today unveiled our permanent home in Mbarara City, the Western Uganda regional headquarters for NUP. We acquired this property over a year ago, and commenced construction. This will be our command center for all [activities in the region].”
The strategic launch follows a significant milestone for the party leader, Bobi Wine, whose nomination as the NUP’s presidential candidate for the 2026 elections was formally verified by the Electoral Commission just two days prior. The nomination was backed by over 126,000 signatures collected from supporters across Uganda.
The event underscores NUP’s continued efforts to build a robust national structure to challenge the incumbent National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming polls.
