A leaked academic document has thrown the political race for the Mawogola North parliamentary seat into sharp focus, revealing the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results of Sodo Kaguta, a brother to President Yoweri Museveni.

The certified true copy of the examination results, issued by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and dated November 15, 2019, shows that Sodo Kaguta, who sat for his A-Level exams in 2002 at Kaaro High School under index number U0546/501, performed poorly.
According to the document, Sodo failed four out of his five subjects. He obtained a ‘Fail’ grade in General Paper, History, Economics, and Christian Religious Education. His only passing grade was a principal pass ‘E’ in Kiswahili.
The document, certified by UNEB Executive Secretary, Dan N. Odongo, indicates that Sodo attained a Grade Aggregate of 5, which qualifies him for the award of a UACE certificate, albeit at the lowest pass level.
The leak is widely seen as a political maneuver from rival camps aiming to question Sodo Kaguta’s academic credentials as he seeks the Mawogola North constituency seat. The race is expected to be highly competitive, with candidates leveraging any advantage to sway voters.
Political analysts suggest that the leak is intended to portray Sodo as academically weak, with the accompanying text in the leak sarcastically noting that the candidate “miserably failed all his subjects save for Kiswahili which doesn’t need much thinking.”
The UNEB certificate includes a standard disclaimer stating that the Board is “not responsible for the identity of the candidate,” a routine clause that does not cast doubt on the authenticity of the results themselves.
As of the time of publishing, Sodo Kaguta or his campaign team had not yet issued an official statement regarding the leaked document. The incident underscores the intensifying and often personal nature of political contests in the region.
