China Pledges Major Support for Global Women’s Empowerment at Beijing Meeting
Beijing, October 14, 2025 — The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women convened in Beijing on October 13 and 14, bringing together world leaders and representatives to advance gender equality and women’s development worldwide. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony, announcing a series of substantial initiatives aimed at supporting women and girls globally over the next five years.
President Xi reaffirmed China’s long-standing commitment to the global cause of women, highlighting the nation’s role in promoting women’s participation in state and social governance. He noted that Chinese women are actively contributing to rural revitalization, common prosperity, scientific innovation, and digital transformation, writing “a splendid history of the cause of women in China.”
To further this commitment, President Xi announced that China will:
Donate an additional US$10 million to U.N. Women;
Earmark US$100 million in China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for projects benefiting women and girls in partnership with international organizations;
Launch 1,000 “small and beautiful” livelihood programs that prioritize women and girls as beneficiaries;
Invite 50,000 women from around the world to China for exchange and training programs; and
Establish a Global Center for Women’s Capacity Building to strengthen cooperation and train more female talent internationally.
Xi emphasized that these initiatives reflect China’s broader vision of building “a community with a shared future for humanity.” He also recalled China’s efforts in establishing the UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women’s Education, initiating public welfare projects like “maternal and child health” and “happy campuses,” and advancing women’s development through frameworks such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
“Standing at this new historic starting point,” Xi said, “let us carry forward the spirit of the Beijing World Conference on Women, accelerate the new process of women’s all-round development, and jointly create a better future for the human race.”
The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women builds on the legacy of the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, reaffirming the global consensus that empowering women is key to inclusive and sustainable development.
