
Nigeria, Uganda Deepen Bilateral Ties in Strategic High-Level Meeting
Kampala, Uganda – August 4, 2025
In a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Ambassador John Shama Shaga, paid a courtesy call on Colonel Edith Nakalema at the offices of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) this afternoon. He was accompanied by the 1st Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullah Muhammad.
The meeting focused on reinforcing the already robust bilateral relations between Nigeria and Uganda, with discussions centered around key strategic areas including investor protection, trade cooperation, and the immense potential offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to officials, the dialogue reflected a shared commitment to bolstering economic ties, fostering a more balanced trade relationship, and unlocking untapped investment opportunities across both nations. The leaders expressed optimism about expanding collaboration in vital sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services.
“This engagement highlights our mutual interest in empowering investors and advancing regional integration for the benefit of our people,” noted Col. Nakalema.
The visit marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to deepen economic diplomacy between the two countries, as they seek to harness the opportunities of a unified African market under the AfCFTA framework.
