Jailed NUP Supporter Sauda Madada Ordered for Emergency Evacuation After Collapsing in Court

KAMPALA – The Kawempe Magistrates Court has ordered the emergency medical evacuation of jailed National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter, Sauda Madada, after she was brought to court severely ill, vomiting blood, and unable to stand or participate in her proceedings.

Madada, who is popularly known by the moniker “Assistant IGP of NUP,” is facing charges related to conducting unlawful military drills, which prosecutors allege scared the President of Uganda and State House officials.
The day’s hearing was abruptly disrupted when it became clear that the accused was in no condition to appear. Madada was brought into the court premises in a critical state, supported by prison warders. She was visibly unwell, vomiting blood, and had a urinary catheter in place.
Her deteriorated health forced Trial Magistrate Damile Agumaasiimwe to move the court session to the holding cells to personally assess Madada’s condition. Upon seeing the defendant, the magistrate immediately issued an order for her urgent medical transfer.
“We have learnt that she is now in Mulago hospital receiving urgent medical attention,” a source confirmed following the court’s order.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention, underscores the ongoing political tensions in the country. The charges against Madada stem from activities that the state deems a security threat. Her supporters, however, have consistently raised concerns about the well-being of detainees associated with the opposition.
The legal proceedings against Madada are adjourned indefinitely until her health stabilizes. The development is likely to intensify scrutiny on the treatment of individuals in pre-trial detention, particularly those involved in politically sensitive cases.
