Prisoner Hospitalized After Court Collapse, Authorities Report Stable Condition

KAMPALA, Uganda – A female inmate identified as Madaada Saudah required emergency medical evacuation from a courthouse on Tuesday after her health deteriorated dramatically, according to an official press release from the Uganda Prisons Service.

The incident is the latest in a series of health crises for the prisoner, known by the identifier LWPR 975/25, who has been held at Luzira Women’s Prison since her admission from Kawempe Chief Magistrate Court on September 10, 2025.

Authorities confirmed that a pre-existing medical condition was identified during her initial entry examination. Her health took a serious turn on the night of November 1, when she fainted in a prison washroom and was rushed to the sickbay before being referred to Mulago Hospital for further management.
After a medical assessment on November 17 deemed her stable enough to attend court proceedings, she was brought before a judge on Tuesday, November 18. It was there that her condition worsened, prompting the court to order an immediate medical evacuation.
In the press release dated November 19, 2025, Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, who serves as the service’s spokesperson, provided an update on her status. “By this morning 19th November, 2025 the medical report shows she is stable,” the statement read.
The Uganda Prisons Service has committed to continuing updates on the prisoner’s condition to both the court and the public as the situation develops.
