MBARARA – September 6, 2025 – A group of over 100 teachers is stranded and expressing deep disappointment at Ntare School in Mbarara after allegedly missing out on a transport refund promised by President Yoweri Museveni.
This follows a two-week patriotism training course that concluded with a pass-out ceremony on Saturday, presided over by officials from the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps.
While a total of 1,145 teachers received certificates for completing the training, at least 123 of them claim they were inexplicably excluded from a Shs300,000 transport facilitation payout that was promised to each participant.
The situation has left the affected educators unable to afford the journey back to their homes across the country. Many are now stuck at the school premises, frustrated and seeking answers.
One of the affected teachers, Edson Mwikirize, did not mince words, openly accusing the event’s organisers of corruption. “We fulfilled our part by dedicating two weeks to this training, but the organisers have failed us. This is a clear case of corruption and mismanagement. We demand urgent intervention from the relevant authorities to ensure accountability and get us what we are owed,” Mwikirize stated.
The teachers are now calling upon the government to immediately investigate the discrepancy in the payments and ensure that every participant receives the promised funds. As of the time of filing this report, the organisers of the patriotism training have not issued any public statement explaining the reason for the omitted payments.
The incident has cast a shadow over the conclusion of the training program, intended to promote national values, leaving many teachers questioning the integrity of its administration.
