Priest Sentenced to 21 Years for Murder of URA Officer
ENTEBBE, Uganda — A Catholic priest has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of a former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officer and the attempted murder of another man.
Rev. Fr. Dominic Alinga, formerly attached to Iriiri Parish in Napak District, received the sentence on Friday from the High Court in Entebbe. The ruling came one day after Alinga pleaded guilty to both charges before the court.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Alinga was charged in October 2024 over the fatal attack that occurred on August 2, 2024.
Motive Behind the Attack
Prosecutors told the court that Alinga believed the victim, John Bosco Ngorok, had played a role in exposing information that led to his suspension from the priesthood. Acting on that belief, the priest reportedly invited Ngorok to a meeting before the two traveled together toward Entebbe.
The Attack
During the journey, Alinga attacked Ngorok with a knife, repeatedly stabbing him. As Ngorok sought help with the assistance of Moses Abigaba, Alinga allegedly drove his vehicle into both men before fleeing the scene.
Ngorok later died from the injuries he sustained, while Abigaba survived the attack.
The sentence brings closure to a case that has drawn significant attention due to the perpetrator’s position as a clergy member.
