Public Servants Urged to Wear Kenyan Jersey in Support of Harambee Stars During CHAN
Nairobi, Kenya – Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called on all public servants across the country to don the Kenyan national jersey throughout the month of August in a symbolic show of patriotism and support for the Harambee Stars.
The directive comes as Kenya prepares to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN), a major continental football tournament that showcases the best talent from national teams composed of locally-based players.
Speaking during a press briefing, CS Ruku emphasized the importance of national unity and morale as the country hosts this high-profile event.
“I urge all public servants to wear the Kenyan jersey in their offices this August as a visible expression of solidarity with our national team, the Harambee Stars. Let us rally behind them as they carry the hopes of the nation on their shoulders,” he stated.
The African Nations Championship is expected to draw thousands of fans and visitors to Kenya, offering a unique opportunity to showcase the country’s hospitality, culture, and passion for sports.
CS Ruku further noted that the initiative will help foster national pride and encourage a culture of unity through sports.
“This is not just about football—it is about standing together as a nation. When we wear the jersey, we are telling the Harambee Stars that the entire country is behind them,” he said.
The public is also encouraged to participate by wearing national colors, attending matches, and supporting local vendors and artisans selling Kenyan-themed merchandise.
The CHAN tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is being hosted in Kenya for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the country’s sporting profile.
As the Harambee Stars prepare to compete on home soil, the wave of national pride—now being carried into public offices—is expected to boost team morale and unite Kenyans under a common cause.
