Trump Administration Plans 17,500 Refugee Admissions for FY2027, Mostly for Afrikaners
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has informed Congress that it plans to set refugee admissions at 17,500 for fiscal year 2027, with admissions expected to go primarily to white South Africans known as Afrikaners.
Washington says Afrikaners face discrimination and possible land seizure without compensation. South Africa’s government has rejected those claims.
The program is projected to cost about $500 million.
Historically, U.S. refugee admissions have included people from dozens of countries fleeing conflict and persecution, with annual admission ceilings set by successive administrations.
