Uganda Imposes 21-Day Quarantine on Returning Citizens as Ebola Precautions Tighten
Uganda will require citizens returning from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo to spend 21 days in quarantine at their own expense as it tightens measures to prevent the spread of Ebola.
Only essential travelers from DR Congo will be allowed into Uganda, subject to health checks. People who have visited DR Congo will also be barred from traveling through Uganda to other destinations. Screening has been increased at airports and land borders.
The measures follow concerns after two people who had recently passed through Uganda later tested positive for Ebola in Kenya and Nigeria.
Uganda says it has no active cases, and all 60 people monitored after contact with the Kenyan patient have completed their observation period.
DR Congo is battling its deadliest Ebola outbreak. The disease spreads through contact with infected bodily fluids, such as blood or vomit.
