Notorious Land Grabber Charged in Mityana, Remanded over UGX 37 Million Fraud
MITYANA, Uganda – Lutwaama Isaac Magandaazi, a well-known land grabber, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretences before the Mityana Chief Magistrate’s Court. He was remanded until April 9, 2026.
The charges stem from a transaction between March and August 2020 in Nawanga, Zigoti Town Council, Mityana District. Prosecutors allege that Lutwaama fraudulently claimed ownership of land located at Block 24, Plot 53, which he did not own, and obtained UGX 37 million from a victim under the false pretense of selling it.
Investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), revealed that Lutwaama misled the victim into believing he was the legitimate owner, despite the property having a rightful owner.
Following a report by the victim, Lutwaama was arrested and later confessed to obtaining millions of shillings from the complainant.
Authorities have since uncovered multiple similar cases involving Lutwaama in both Mityana and Wakiso districts. The public is urged to come forward if they have been defrauded or if their land has been unlawfully taken by him.
