ODPP Sanctions Murder Charges Against Suspect in Ggaba Child Deaths

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has formally sanctioned four murder charges against Christopher Okello Onyum in connection with the deaths of four children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre last week.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors allege that Onyum, on April 2, 2026, at the daycare centre located in Ggaba Trading Zone, Makindye Division, acted with malice aforethought to unlawfully cause the deaths of Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Sseruyange Ignitius, and Odeke Ryan.
Onyum appeared before the Chief Magistrates’ Court of Makindye on Tuesday afternoon, where the charges were read and explained to him. He was remanded to prison until April 8, 2026, when the case is scheduled for mention.
The prosecution is being led by Mr. Jonathan Muwaganya and Ms. Anna Kiiza, both Chief State Attorneys from the ODPP. Her Worship Nanjala Aidah, Senior Magistrate Grade I, presided over the proceedings.
The tragedy has deeply shaken the Ggaba community, leaving four families grieving and residents searching for answers. As justice begins its course, the prosecution has pledged to present the full weight of evidence before the court for examination.
