Ugandan Singer Spice Diana Seizes DJ Equipment Over Unpaid Gig
Bukomansimbi, Uganda – Ugandan singer Spice Diana took matters into her own hands late Friday night after a promoter allegedly failed to pay her full performance fee, confiscating sound equipment as collateral following a tense standoff at Labamba venue in Bukomansimbi District.
The “Jangu” singer had driven four hours from Kampala for the show, despite earlier entry issues at the venue. After completing her performance, the promoter reportedly skipped on the balance of her payment. In response, Spice Diana addressed the crowd, explaining her “ghetto roots” and her responsibilities to her workers and children, before instructing her team to unplug laptops, microphones, speakers, and other gear.
Taking to Snapchat afterward, she vented her frustration:
“Normal people are enjoying their beds, you drive 4 hrs on pressure, otusewa otusewa, mukama nayamba notuka, with the poor roads of Uganda past midnight, nio ate no payment. I will die with someone as always. I don’t joke with my money, the Ghetto in me comes out. Mpozzi nga saberako nankulabye.”
Spice Diana held onto the equipment until the matter was resolved, refusing to leave empty-handed.
Industry Reaction
Fellow artist DJ Crysto Panda publicly praised her actions, calling it a firm stand against common promoter tactics where performers are shortchanged after traveling long distances. However, some fans have suggested that following her recent split with her former manager, Spice Diana should secure better professional representation to avoid such incidents in the future.
The entertainer has built a reputation for resilience, often speaking openly about being raised by a single mother and her determination to protect her livelihood.
