Government Warns Public Over Resurfaced Museveni Video on School Closures
Kampala, Uganda – The Ugandan government has strongly dismissed a viral video showing President Yoweri Museveni discussing school closures, clarifying that the footage is outdated and unrelated to the current Ebola situation in the country.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Faruk Kirunda — the Special Presidential Assistant for Press & Mobilization and Deputy Press Secretary — urged the public to ignore the circulating clip.
“The video circulating online of H.E Kaguta Museveni talking about school closures is neither current nor related to Ebola. It’s from the COVID-19 era and should be disregarded,” Kirunda wrote.
Official communications from his account, labelled as the official channel for his role, have repeatedly labelled the video with warnings including “FAKE FAKE!!!!!”
The warning comes amid heightened public anxiety following the video showing an Ebola outbreak in Kampala. According to unverified reports circulating alongside the resurfaced video, at least 74 people have been confirmed with Ebola in the capital — though authorities have not officially confirmed that figure.
Kirunda advised Ugandans to rely solely on official government channels for accurate updates, emphasizing that the old video risks causing unnecessary alarm and panic.
“The public is urged to look out for relevant information from official channels of Gov’t to avoid unnecessary alarm and panic. Stay safe! FK,” his statement concluded.
Authorities continue to monitor the Ebola situation and remind citizens to verify information before sharing on social media.
